Leigh 10 – 23 Hull KR

Leigh Centurions crashed out of the Ladbrokes Challenge Cup at the fifth round stage for the second year in a row.

Rovers visited LSV for the third time and followed up 2015 victories over Wigan in the Cup and Leigh in the Qualifiers with another deserved success.

The 2015 Challenge Cup Finalists got off to a flying start with tries by Ryan Shaw and George Lawler inside the first eight minutes.

Shaw raced clear from halfway after a Leigh attacking move broke down while Lawler pounced on Jamie Ellis’s kick to touchdown.

Leigh old boy Ellis was influential in his side’s attacking display.

The Centurions fought back with tries by Lachlan Burr and Curtis Naughton to level the scores at 10-10 but Joe Greenwood sliced over on the left just before the break to regain the lead for the Championship pace-setters.

Rovers showed a steely resolve to soak up waves of Leigh pressure and Ellis finally broke a tense second half deadlock with a drop-goal nine minutes from time.

Shaw’s second try late in the game was the icing on the cake for the 1,200 strong travelling Rovers contingent.
