ST Helens 28 – 6 Leigh

Leigh Centurions’ first visit to the Totally Wicked Stadium ended in disappointment despite a spirited team effort as the injuries mounted.

Already shorn of several key players through injury including captain Micky Higham, Gareth Hock, Willie Tonga, Antoni Maria, Cory Paterson, Mitch Brown and James Clare the Centurions ended the game with a bare 12 players.

Jamie Acton, Dayne Weston, Adam Higson and Harrison Hansen were all in the wars with injuries and Eloi Pelissier in the sin bin after an altercation with Adam Walker who was also carded.

Acton ploughed over for the game’s opening try as the visitors took the game to Saints but tries by Mark Percival and Theo Fages, both converted by Percival gave the home side a 12-6 interval lead.

Saints, still under the joint caretaker charge of Sean Long, Jamahl Lolesi and Derek Traynor after Kieron Cunningham’s departure, added three second half tries to avenge their early season defeat at LSV.

Ryan Morgan, Regan Grace and Alex Walmsley all went over with Percival adding two conversions.
