Leigh 0 – 38 Castleford

Clinical Castleford continued their golden run of form spearheaded by four-try winger Greg Eden who notched his fourth successive hat-trick.

Eden went in for a five minute hat-trick late in the first half, providing the finishing touches to great combination by Luke Gale and Michael Shenton and added a fourth try nine minutes into the second half with Leigh down to 12 men with Ben Crooks in the sin bin.

He has now scored 28 tries for the Tigers this season after joining the club from Brisbane Broncos.

Buoyed by their fine away win at Hull on Friday, the Centurions gave as good as they got in the opening half-hour despite losing captain Glenn Stewart to a head knock .

The highly impressive Jesse Sene-Lefao scored the Tigers’ first two tries and Jake Webster claimed the visitors’ seventh and final try ahead of a scoreless last quarter with Gale successfully converting five goals.

Atelea Vea’s claims for a seventh-minute try were rightly ruled out by the video referee but Eloi Pelissier’s disallowed effort was one of several close calls that frustrated the home fans in a near 6,000 crowd.

Sam Hopkins was convinced he had scored with the last play of the game but referee Chris Kendall declined to go to the screen. It summed up Leigh’s day.

Antoni Maria made a successful return from a long term injury and had a fine game in the Leigh pack with Cory Paterson wining the home Man of the Match award.

Both sets of supporters impeccably observed one minute’s silence ahead of the game when 22 red heart-shaped balloons were released in memory of the victims of the tragic events in Manchester one week ago.

And the North Stand was in full voice with a stirring rendition of the Oasis anthem ‘Don’t Look Back in Anger.’
