Matty Dawson Remains With Leigh Centurions

Leigh Centurions are pleased to confirm that Matty Dawson will continue his career with the Club next season in their fight to regain their Betfred Super League status.

The 26-year-old winger was the Club’s top try-scorer in 2017, scoring 15 tries in 31 games and has scored 24 tries in 39 games since arriving from St Helens for a five figure transfer fee in July 2016.

Leigh Centurions head coach Neil Jukes said: “I am delighted to keep hold of Matty. He has missed only one game since he joined the Club which demonstrates the high level of consistency in his own performances.

“He looks after himself away from the Club and works hard on his own game, while buying into the integrity of the team performance which is really important. I am looking forward to Matty being part of the team next season as we aim to get back our Super League place.”

Matty Dawson said: “Getting promoted to Super League with Leigh Centurions in 2016 was one of the high points of my career so far. I’m made up to be staying and I’m going to do everything I can to get us back to where we belong.”

A former Castleford Tigers junior, Dawson made his Super League debut with Huddersfield Giants in 2012 before moving to St Helens. After earning Heritage Number 1416 following his Centurions debut against Dewsbury Rams he played a big part in the Club’s promotion push in 2016 with nine tries in eight games and went on to become one of their most consistent players in their Super League campaign.

Including dual registration spells at Doncaster and Rochdale Hornets he has scored 48 tries in 110 career games.

Matty Dawson is sponsored by Holiday Inn Express Leigh.
