Centurions Break Club Record At Sheffield Last Sunday

Leigh Centurions set a new club record with their first half display in yesterday’s Betfred Championship game against Sheffield Eagles at Olympic Legacy Park.

It was the first time in Club history that Leigh had scored 50 points in the first half of a game.

Several supporters had queried if this was a ‘first’ at the game itself and on Sunday evening and after exhaustive research this can now be confirmed.

Kieron Purtill’s side actually led 50-0 until Eagles scored a try on the stroke of half-time to make the interval score 50-4.

Craig Hall scored a five minute hat-trick during that first half which may also be a Club record, but as it has only recently become the accepted norm to include minutes after tries in reports summaries that is proving very difficult to verify.

Prior to yesterday Leigh had scored 48 points in a first half in their Club record 92-2 victory over Keighley in 1986 and their 74-0 win at London Skolars in 2006.

They scored 47 first half points at Featherstone Rovers in 2004 on their way to a 75-20 victory and 46 first-half points on three separate occasions.

Included below is a list of Leigh’s highest wins (scoring 70 points or more) with the half-time score in each:
