Featherstone Rovers made a big step towards securing home advantage for the Betfred Championship Shield Final in the first week of October with this convincing victory at the LD Nutrition Stadium.

John Duffy’s side fielded only 14 players with Danny Maskill their sole substitute but they showed commendable resilience and team spirit despite the warm conditions to punish a lack-lustre visiting side.

Josh Hardacstle, John Davies and Anthony Thackeray scored first half tries for Rovers, who led 16-0 at the break.

Matty Dawson-Jones scored Leigh’s only try of the game just after the hour-mark but Matty Wildie’s late try sealed a deserved win for the home side.

Rovers lead Leigh by two points with four games of the regular season remaining.
