Fans Turn Out In Force For Open Training Session

Leigh Centurions head coach John Duffy has paid tribute to the Club’s supporters after a big turn-out at the open training session at Leigh Miners Rangers’ Manchester Road HQ this afternoon.

Several hundred fans of all ages braved the chilly weather to watch the hour-long session intently and the players and coaches then mixed with the fans for photographs, autographs and chats.

The lads were delighted to highlight the upcoming Cancer Research UK Race for Life by donning the t-shirt after today’s open training session. Please support this great cause!

“It was an unbelievable turn-out,” Duffy said. “I started off at the bottom end doing some drills with the outside backs and when I turned around there were hundreds at the top end and on the clubhouse balcony. I couldn’t believe it.

“It was great to see and a big boost for the players and staff, who have worked hard in the past few months.

“We appreciate the efforts our fans made to come along and also Leigh Miners Rangers for opening up and making their superb facilities available to us.

“It was good to see the boys mixing with the fans and putting a few faces to names. They had a chat with the fans, signed autographs and had plenty of photos taken.

“We also were delighted to support Cancer Research and pose for photographs to publicise their 5k Race for Life in June.

“It was great to get in a really good daylight session and completed a busy day for the players, who’d been over to Bradford earlier for heart screening ahead of the new season. I’m glad to report that everyone came through fine.

“With going back to part-time we don’t get together as a group as much as we’d like so the time we have together we have to enjoy.

“We made the most of it today and got plenty of good work done as well. We had some fun but when we had to switch on, we switched on.

“Everyone’s desperate for a game now and that was the feeling among all the fans I spoke to as well.

“We are all looking forward to the warm up game against London Broncos at LSV next Sunday (27 January) and the lads can’t wait to run out in front of the North Stand.”
