Adam Higson Returns To Leigh Centurions

Leigh Centurions are pleased to confirm that Adam Higson has re-joined his hometown club on a permanent contract until the end of the 2020 season.

Higson, 32, has spent the last two seasons with Toronto Wolfpack after leaving Leigh following their relegation from Super League in 2017.

Leigh Centurions head coach John Duffy said: “I know AJ well from back in the day when I was still playing. He reads the game well and gets his teams on the front foot out of yardage.

“He’s a Leigh lad and he wants to come back and I’m looking forward to seeing him in a Leigh shirt again.”

Adam Higson said: “Obviously I’m a local lad and it’s good to be back. I know a lot of the lads and it feels like I’ve never been away and I will be able to fit into the systems.

“I played with Duffs and I get on well with him and I want to get back to enjoying my rugby again.

“The boys have a good relationship with each other off the field and Duffs has got a good thing going here. He knows when to be serious but also when he can be more relaxed.

“It feels like the club I was at five or six years ago when I played my best rugby.

“Playing for Toronto is something I’ve done in my life and I enjoyed it. But now’s the time to start all over again at Leigh.”

After graduating through the age groups at Leigh Miners Rangers, Higson made his senior debut against Celtic Crusaders in 2008, retrospectively earning Heritage Number #1310. His early professional career was interrupted by injuries and he spent the 2012 season with Swinton Lions before making a successful return to the Centurions.

He enjoyed an outstanding 2014 campaign, scoring 17 tries in 26 games including a fine touchdown in the corner in Leigh’s 36-12 Championship Grand Final win over Featherstone Rovers at Headingley.

He continued to blossom, playing an integral role in the 2016 promotion season, scoring some outstanding tries and making the right-wing spot his own.

Adam will be sponsored by Impact Insurance for the remainder of the season.

Moira Griffiths from Impact Insurance said;

“We have sponsored Adam when he played for Leigh before, and it only seemed right to sponsor him again upon his return. He is a good try-scoring winger and it’s great to see him back at the Club. Welcome back Adam!”
