Kevin Brown Joins Leigh Centurions On Loan

Leigh Centurions are delighted to confirm the loan signing of England international halfback Kevin Brown from Warrington Wolves until the end of the current season.

Brown’s signing was registered with the RFL prior to last Friday’s transfer deadline which makes him available for all Leigh Centurions’ remaining Betfred Championship and play-off fixtures.

Brown, 34, has fought his way back to fitness after suffering an Achilles injury in January which originally was feared would rule him out for the entire season.

“I’ve worked very hard to get back to playing after my injury and I’ve felt great for the past three or four weeks now,” Brown said. “I’ve had a good, long chat with (Warrington head coach) Steve Price and he and Warrington have been really transparent with me. They’ve had to have a back up plan after the injury to Blake Austin and have signed Matty Smith and I totally get that.

“I’m gutted to leave the Wolves but it’s opened another door for me and I’m really excited about coming to Leigh. I could have sat with my feet up and got my money for the rest of the year but that’s not me. My brother-in-law (Gaz Hock) loved his time at Leigh and can’t speak too highly of the club and Micky Higham’s a good mate of mine and I know what he thinks of the club and the town. They both speak very highly of (head coach) John Duffy.

“I want to play and I want to play well. I’ve got a huge amount of motivation to do well for Leigh. I’ve been monitoring their results and their recent signings and they’re a dark horse for promotion.

“Leigh’s a great club with fantastic supporters and facilities and coming here was a no-brainer for me. I desperately want to play and play well for them. I’m really confident about my injury and have passed all the tests.

“I would get a massive sense of achievement if I helped them get promotion and I’d be the happiest man in Rugby League. It would be right up there with anything I’ve done in my career.”

Leigh Centurions head coach John Duffy said: “Kev’s a great professional who does everything right and he’s someone all the players can look up to.

“We have some high-pressure games coming up, but Kev’s played in a lot of those including a World Cup Final. He’s got a lot of substance behind him and he will be great around the group, not only this season but for the legacy he’ll leave.”

Kevin Brown has enjoyed an outstanding career at the top level of the game since making his Wigan Warriors debut in 2003. A former England Academy international, he spent seven seasons with Huddersfield Giants between 2006 and 2012 and four with Widnes Vikings before joining Warrington in 2017. He has won ten caps for England and played a prominent role in their 2017 World Cup campaign.

Kevin will by sponsored by Probuild Plumbing and Heating, Caton Lloyd Audio Visual Solutions, The Leigh Arms Public House, Struktura Engineering Services, 24/7 Technology and Impact Insurance. Leigh Centurions would like to thank all these companies for their fantastic support.
