Leigh Centurions Club Ambassador Alex Murphy OBE celebrates his 80th birthday on Easter Monday. A star scrum-half at hometown St Helens and scourge of the Aussies while still a teenager on the 1958 tour, Murphy is a member of the Rugby League Hall of Fame. It was the late, great Tommy Sale MBE that was the catalyst in Murphy first joining Leigh. He’d fallen out with home town club St Helens and was in dispute. Congratulations to Jonny Pownall on his 100th career try, scored against Widnes Vikings on Good Friday. Pownall has scored 67 tries in 103 games for his hometown club and 100 in 144 career games.
