Tongan born Fuifui experienced English club rugby for the first time in his illustrious career in 2015 having ended a successful eleven-year stint in the NRL with Parramatta.

After being spotted playing in New Zealand club rugby, he made his debut for the Eels in 2004 and became one of the NRL’s most recognisable and respected players, making 201 club appearances and scoring one of his 22 tries in the club’s 2009 grand final defeat at the hands of Melbourne Storm.

After making his New Zealand debut against Australia in 2007 he was a member of the All Golds touring party later that year and last represented the Kiwis in the 2011 Four Nations tournament, making 12 test match appearances in all.

He represented his native Tonga in the 2013 World Cup in England, playing in all three games, including the sell-out match against Cook Islands at LSV.

Fuifui continued the tradition of Tongan players at Leigh started by the popular Lee Hansen and Tau Liku, who both still live in the town, in the 1990s and soon made himself a great crowd favourite at LSV.

His signing was seen by Club Owner Derek Beaumont as a catalyst for the many top level players who followed his lead in signing for Leigh in 2015.
