Leigh Centurions have signed two exciting prospects on season-long loan deals from Hull FC for the 2020 Betfred Championship season.
Forward Lewis Bienek and centre or winger Cameron Scott arrive at Leigh Sports Village to boost Head Coach John Duffy’s squad ahead of the new campaign which starts at Dewsbury on January 31.
Mr Duffy said: “Both Lewis and Cameron are players who will give us more competition for places and I am excited to see what they can do for Leigh Centurions. I would like to thank Lee Radford and Hull FC for their help in making this happen.”
Leigh Centurions are delighted to confirm the season-long loan signing of 21-year-old Hull FC prop forward Lewis Bienek.
An Ireland international, Bienek started his professional career with London Broncos before joining Hull FC in 2018 on a three-and-a-half year contract before being immediately loaned back. He has also enjoyed loan spells with Doncaster, Batley Bulldogs and Oxford.
Leigh Head Coach John Duffy said: “Lewis appeared on the scene after coming through the Academy pathway at London Broncos while Andrew Henderson was there coaching.
“He enjoyed a brilliant couple of seasons before London made Super League and Hull FC took a chance on him last year. He’s a big boy, a really athletic front runner who takes some putting down when he’s on his game.
“I’m looking forward to getting him down here and adding some size to our pack. He’s excited to be linking up with a few of the former London lads like Jarrod Sammut, Mark Ioane, Tom Spencer and Ben Hellewell.”
Born in Sidcup, Bienek is of Polish descent. Most recently he played at Batley so has no illusions about what a competitive league the Betfred Championship is. While with the Bulldogs he made 16 appearances, scoring two tries. Bienek, who is 6ft 2″ and 19 stone played in Batley’s home and away Championship games against Leigh last term which both ended in a win for John Duffy’s men.
Born in Bradford and a product of the Bulls academy, Cameron Scott captained England Academy to a 2-0 Test Series triumph over Australia Schoolboys – including a 14-8 win at Leigh Sports Village in 2018.
Leigh Head Coach John Duffy said Scott’s arrival gives them more competition for places across the backline and he’s excited to see what he can do. He said: “Cameron is a big athletic centre who can play wing as well.
“I am looking to use him in both those positions in the friendly against Wigan Warriors. He’s very excited about coming on board and getting some game time. Scott joined Hull FC in 2018 and made his debut against Hull Kingston Rovers, going on to make a further six appearances before loan spells with Doncaster and Dewsbury.
Last season he played just once game for the Airlie Birds but spent time at both Doncaster and York City Knights on loan. His spell at York saw him score four tries in seven appearances.
