Leigh Centurions are delighted to confirm the signing of experienced half-back Jamie Ellis from Hull KR for the 2021 season.

It will be Ellis’ second stint at the Club having had a memorable season under the management of Ian Millward in 2011, earning #HN1341.

“That was one of the best times of my career,” said Ellis. “I’d love to replicate that in 2021 and I am really looking forward to being back at Leigh. It’s a great club, a great town and it’s got great fans and I can’t wait to play in front of them again.”

While at Leigh, he won a clutch of end of season awards and famously scored two tries in the Northern Rail Cup Final win over Halifax in Blackpool. He also regularly played alongside current Leigh Head Coach John Duffy that year so the pair are well acquainted.

“I have been mates with John since we played together,” said Ellis. “When he started coaching I texted him every time he moved to a new club asking when he was going to sign me and I’ve always wanted the chance to play for him. I’m excited to sign for Leigh because we are going to have a really strong squad next season with some exciting new arrivals adding to an established squad. I think Leigh would have gone close to promotion this year had the season not been halted.”

Born in Preston, Ellis is a product of the Chorley Panthers amateur club. The 30-year-old has a wealth of Super League experience after stints at Hull FC, Castleford Tigers, Huddersfield Giants and Hull KR. Though a half-back by trade, he has played at hooker when required so his versatility will be a major plus for Head Coach John Duffy.

“I’ve known Jamie for a long time and he’s someone who can lead us around the park,” said Duffy. “He has a lot of top flight experience and is the type of player we will need to be where we want to be next season. Jamie has a great kicking game and will be a real asset.

“In Super League he has worked under some very good coaches and I know he can’t wait to pull on a Leigh jersey again. It’s a massive signing for us.”
