Leigh Centurions can confirm that their Betfred Super League Round Six fixture against Wigan Warriors at Leigh Sports Village will take place at 8pm on Monday, May 17.

This will be the second meeting of the season for the local rivals in quick succession with Leigh also meeting Wigan in Round One at Emerald Headingley on March 26.

The fixture has been scheduled on this date to provide season ticket holders the opportunity to attend subject to the Government’s road map of returning crowds to stadiums on May 17, 2021 being maintained.

Leigh Centurions Owner Derek Beaumont said: “I would like to personally thank Ian Lenagan, Kris Radlinski and Adrian Lam for unselfishly agreeing to our request to move this fixture to enable our season ticket holders the opportunity to celebrate a return to watching our Club with a derby game against our neighbours – a tie that every Leigh fan puts at the top of their list.

“This demonstrates the good relationship between the clubs and I hope when we visit the DW Stadium, full crowds are allowed with restrictions removed so our supporters can show their appreciation. Last time we were in the Betfred Super League in 2017 the fixture was the highlight of our season and there’s no doubt the Wigan Warriors will want to put that right which makes for a really exciting prospect. I am really pleased that we are able to have an atmosphere for this game there is simply no better game to kick start the return of spectators to the Leigh Sports Village.”

Spectators are reminded of the previous release from the club concerning the code of conduct and procedures for visiting Leigh Sports Village as a spectator which can be viewed HERE. Should the Government push back the return of crowds beyond May 17, the clubs may return the fixture to the weekend.
