Leigh Centurions can confirm Jamie Ellis is joining Betfred Championship side York City Knights on loan.
The arrangement is initially for two weeks but will be reviewed after that on a weekly basis.
Forward Tom Spencer will also return to Swinton Lions under the same arrangement.
Leigh Centurions owner Derek Beaumont said: “This opportunity gives Jamie the chance to get some good game time at a club with a good coaching set-up and excellent playing facilities.
“By playing regularly, Jamie will have the chance to push for a place in our starting 17 and be sharp should he need to be recalled. It benefits both clubs and the player, It could also see Jamie having the opportunity to play at Wembley in the AB Sundecks 1895 Cup Final against Featherstone Rovers.”
Ellis rejoined Leigh ahead of the 2021 season but he suffered an injury during a pre-season warm-up game at Warrington which limited his first-team opportunities in Super League. Born in Chorley, Ellis originally played for Leigh on loan from St Helens in 2011 and famously scored two tries in the dramatic Northern Rail Cup Final win over Halifax at Blackpool’s Bloomfield Road.
In addition, Leigh Centurions forward Tom Spencer will return to Betfred Championship club Swinton Lions on loan, initially for two weeks but this agreement will be reviewed week to week.
