Leigh Centurions are on the road again this Sunday when they travel to the MKM Stadium to face Hull FC in the Betfred Super League.

It’s only a few weeks since the famous old clubs met at Leigh Sports Village when Hull FC enjoyed a 64-22 success.

Andre Savelio scored a hat-trick of tries with Adam Swift grabbing two and Marc Sneyd adding eight goals in a comprehensive success.

Leigh are still looking for their first win of the season and were beaten by Leeds Rhinos 48-18 in their last game at Emerald Headingley. Despite going ahead through an early Matty Russell try, a sin-binning for James Bell proved costly for the Centurions.

Brett Hodgson’s men were scheduled to play on Monday but their game against Salford was postponed due to COVID issues at the Red Devils. In their last game on June 25, Hull FC defeated Huddersfield Giants 17-10.

When the Centurions last visited Hull FC in May 2017 they came away with a 26-22 success, their only Super League success against the Black and Whites.

Ryan Brierley suffered a serious eye injury in last Thursday’s defeat at Leeds

Team news
Leigh’s James Bell is serving a one match suspension so misses the trip to Hull FC. Ryan Brierley is also out with an eye injury sustained in the game at Leeds last Thursday. Ben Reynolds is still missing with a knee injury.

Coach comments
Leigh Centurions interim head coach Kurt Haggerty
“We are probably still hurting from the last time we played Hull. It’s a big test of character for us going up there.”

“Defensively we weren’t as good around the edges as I’d like us to be (at Leeds). We have just got to keep fighting and staying in that cycle of games and hopefully breaking the mould.

“The players are showing the right attitude in training, the sessions are very intense and we need to take that into games.

“We could have Adam Sidlow back this week and Keanan Brand has had 80 minutes under his belt with playing at Leeds.”
