Leigh Centurions play their second home game in six days when they welcome Leeds Rhinos to Leigh Sports Village in the Betfred Super League on Friday, kick-off 8pm.

It will be the second time the teams have met this season, with Leigh beaten 48-18 in July at Emerald Headingley.

Leigh are still looking for their first win of the year though last Sunday ran Hull KR close in a high scoring game at the LSV that finished 34-28 in favour of Rovers. Junior Sa’u and Adam Sidlow both scored two tries apiece in a game where Leigh held a slender lead going into the final stages.

In their last outing on August 6, Leeds suffered a 32-18 defeat at home to Castleford and a week earlier were narrowly beaten 27-26 by Warrington Wolves. Richard Agar’s men last won on July 29 when they saw off Hull FC 22-12 at the MKM Stadium.

Leeds beat Leigh at Emerald Headingley earlier in the season

Leigh are seeking their first win against Leeds since an 18-6 Stones Bitter Championship victory at Hilton Park on February 7, 1988.

Leeds have won 17 of the last 18 meetings between the clubs since then, with the sides also fighting out a 12-12 draw at Hilton Park on 22 November, 1992.

Leeds are also undefeated in their last nine away meetings with Leigh, having won eight and drawn one. Leigh’s last home victory against Leeds was that same February 1988 win.

Coach comments

Leigh Centurions interim head coach Kurt Haggerty

“We were really happy with the effort we put in against Hull KR on Sunday. We need to tidy up certain areas and when we do that, a win is certainly coming. It was a much improved performance.

“I honestly see things starting to change for us. We were still in the game with 10 minutes to go against Hull KR which hasn’t happened too many times this season.

“Leeds Rhinos are a very good team with some very good personnel. Their squad has youth and experience.”
