Dale Halliwell from PPS Design and Build Ltd with Karen Roberts at Leigh Sports Village

Leigh Centurions are delighted to welcome PPS Design and Build Ltd as the main shirt sponsor for the 2022 Betfred Championship season.

PPS Design and Build is a locally based, fast growing company supplying skilled bricklayers to the civil construction industry with projects across the North-West. The company also offers a wide range of building solutions from refurbishments and extensions to new builds, committed to excellence from the initial design right through to the construction.

On behalf of the company Dale Halliwell revealed that he was fulfilling a long-held ambition to see the company name as main sponsor on his hometown club’s shirt, having been a valued sponsor of players and match days in recent years.

“Leigh Centurions is a massive part of our town, we all share the joy when the club is doing well and the pain when we lose,” Dale said. “That’s the thing I love most about the club. You can feel the passion among the supporters on a match day at Leigh Sports Village. All the Leigh fans love the club and are so proud of the past and present players and win or lose, they defend Leigh to the hilt.

“I first went watching Leigh at Hilton Park with my Grandad and Uncle who were both avid supporters. My Dad (Paul O’Neill) is a big Leigh fan too and he played professionally on the wing for Salford in the early 1990s and then some games for Leigh’s A team.

“I’m so happy to be part of it and to see the company name on the front of the shirt will be a fantastic feeling. We are going to see a different class of rugby this coming season and it is going to be so exciting. We all can’t wait for the season to start.

“You look at the quality of people brought into the club, like Chris Chester and Adrian Lam and the players they are recruiting and you can see they are rebuilding the club with huge ambition. It’s a great opportunity for our company to be in at the start of something special.

“Building a rugby team and a club is like building our business. You need good people in every department, all working together with a common goal. When you’ve got that, you’re on to a winner. As a business we rely heavily on teamwork and the relationship we have with our customers and our employees and subcontractors. A rugby league club is just the same.”

Hilltop Products are the outgoing main shirt sponsors and Dale Halliwell revealed a chance conversation he had with Steve Hill that fuelled his ambition. “I met Steve socially one evening and congratulated him on being the main shirt sponsor,” he said. “Steve was great with me, and we had a long chat. I told him that one day I wanted to emulate him, and he encouraged me, and now here we are.”

Dale wants to contribute far more than his sponsorship by using his business experience to help Leigh Centurions players plan for their future. “I left school at 16, did my apprenticeship and worked on the tools,” he explained. “But then I got a back injury and couldn’t do bricklaying anymore. I had to use my experience in a different direction and with help from my family, we set up the business which has grown to what we have today.

“I’d like to bring something different to the club and help players plan for a career once their playing days are over. We have the expertise available to offer training in a wide range of trades and skills and that is something we are looking forward to developing.”

Leigh Centurions general manager Karen Roberts said: “It has been an absolute honour to work with Dale and the company and finalise this sponsorship. The pride and passion that Dale exudes for the company and for the club and the town of Leigh is really something to behold.

“It is fantastic that we have a local company working closely with us as we look ahead to an exciting season.

“Dale and his family are steeped in Rugby League and many of the people they employ are Leigh Centurions supporters, so there’s a real positivity to the relationship between PPS Design & Build and the club.

“It also demonstrates there are great opportunities for local businesses to get involved with the club and work together for mutual benefit. Leigh Centurions offers a great profile and opportunity for businesses to build brand awareness while also involving their employees and customers.

“I’d also like to pay tribute to Steve Hill and Hilltop Products whose support over past seasons has been fantastic. They showed unwavering support especially through the difficult months of the pandemic and have been great sponsors for Leigh Centurions. Steve and his family will always be welcome visitors to our club.”
