A last minute try from Ed Chamberlain saw Leigh Centurions progress through to the Sixth Round of the Challenge at Odsal Stadium last Monday.
The Centurions nearly opened the scoring just minutes into the first period, as Hooker Aaron Smith nearly went over just beside the sticks but the ball was held up on the line.
However, a quarter of an hour in, it was the home side who broke the deadlock. Dec Patton converted a penalty kick after Tom Amone was caught offside.
Bradford extended their lead through Kieran Gill, as the Centre went over down the left flank, with Patton making the extras.
With five minutes to go before the interval, co-captain Adam Sidlow played through contact and slammed the ball down for his first try of the 2022 season, with Ben Reynolds making his first conversion of the evening.
Leigh levelled up proceeding just moment before the break, with Reynolds making his second kick after a penalty call against the Bulls.
Half Time – Bradford Bull 8-8 Leigh Centurions
With just under an hour on the clock, following some cagey back and forth up to this point, Matty Dawson-Jones had the ball down in the right corner following some intricate passing play by John Kear’s men. Patton converted the penalty from an immensely tight angle.
12 minutes were left as the Cherry and White faced an exit from the Challenge Cup, only for Nene Macdonald to break through a tackle and power the ball over the line. Reynolds then his took tally to 3/3 for the evening with the kick.
Two points were all that separated the sides as full-time loomed, only for Centurions Centre Ed Chamberlain to spoil the fun for the Odsal faithful.
Ben Reynolds put the ball high into the air, with Keanan Brand outjumping the Bulls defender and offloading to Chamberlain, who got the ball down and won the game for Adrian Lam’s men.
