As we take a break from league action, three Centurions’ players will be involved with their respective countries following call-ups. Both Ed Chamberlain and Keanan Brand have been called up to Ireland’s training camp, with Luis Roberts set to join up with Wales as they prepare for their match against France.

Centurions’ Head Coach, Adrian Lam says he is delighted for his players that have been called up, going on to say it is a reward for their effort for the team so far this year.

We have some players that have been identified in various international programmes to represent their countries – both in training camps and playing games – in the next week or so. For me as their coach, I’m really proud of them for achieving that.

“It’s acknowledgement and identification that they’re doing well for our Leigh side. We’re proud of everyone and their inclusions are well deserved”

He also specifically pointed out Roberts’ inclusion for Wales. The Leigh-born winger impressed last season at Swinton Lions, seeing himself shortlisted for the Betfred Championship Young Player of the Year.

Lam states he sees a lot of potential in the young speedster and his pride at seeing a Leigh fan-turned-player fly the flag for the club on the international stage.

Luis is a local boy, representing us as a club. It’s a moment to be incredibly proud of, not just for me as a coach, but for the club as a whole.

“I think Luis has got a big future in the game. We’re working hard with him to develop as a player and reach his protentional. He deserves a big congratulations and deserves this reward for his work at this stage in the season.”

Roberts’ Wales side will travel to the south of France to take on the French national side in Albi on Sunday, 19th June. It will be Wales’ first international match for over three years – their last outing seeing them qualify for the Rugby League World Cup.
