Ton Up Riddy – Again

As a talented darts player Martyn Ridyard knows all about the importance of achieving consistent centuries.

It’s a skill he has also mastered as the main marksman for Leigh Centurions, where his fine, consistent goal-kicking has underpinned the successes of recent seasons.

During the Kingstone Press Championship Round 23 game against Dewsbury Rams at LSV last Sunday, Martyn Ridyard completed one hundred goals for the fifth season in succession. His nine goals in that game took him to 104 goals for the season for Leigh Centurions.

He becomes only the second player in Club history to achieve the feat of kicking over one hundred goals in five successive seasons.

After taking over the goal-kicking duties from Mick Nanyn, Ridyard kicked 133 goals in 2012, 123 goals in 2013, 167 goals in 2014 and 159 goals in 2015.

The only player to have also achieved this feat for the Club is the late, great Jimmy Ledgard.

The former GB international fullback favoured the traditional toe-ended kicking style and had the old leather balls to contend with.

Ledgard, who cost Leigh a RL record fee of £2,650 from Dewsbury in 1948, repaid that investment many times over.

He kicked 125 goals in 1951-52, 116 goals in 1952-53, 104 goals in 1953-54, 165 goals in 1954-55 and 148 goals in 1955-56.

Super 8’s The Qualifiers: Fixtures Announced

Leigh Centurions can confirm that all four home fixtures in the Super 8s Qualifiers will be staged at LSV on Saturdays, with the first game having a 6pm kick-off and the remaining games having a 3pm kick-off.

In addition the admission prices for all games will be increased by £2 across the board from prices charged for the 2016 Kingstone Press Championship, apart from U18s tickets which will be increased by £1. Children under 5 will remain free of charge.

Explaining the decisions Leigh Centurions Owner Derek Beaumont said: “As a Board of Directors we delivered with winning the League Leaders Shield for a third successive year and strengthening the squad with the recent additions of Matty Dawson, Danny Tickle and Mitch Brown.

“We feel that a small increase across the board in match day prices is justifiable and will enable us to achieve some parity with prices charged by Super League clubs. We have got a Super League squad that is worthy of Super League prices.

“Obviously these changes will not affect our loyal season ticket holders and it is vitally important that we recognise their support.

“As part of their package their season ticket guarantees entry to three games in the 8s and for the extra game, which will be the one against Salford, they will be entitled to buy a match day ticket at a proportionate price.”

Mr Beaumont added: “The Club’s sole focus is to give the team the best chance of achieving a place in Super League and that takes precedence over commercial decisions and other factors which we would normally consider.

“With Sky Sports televising games on a Saturday and the strong possibility they may decide to broadcast more than one home game we have arranged our schedule to minimise the disruption to the coaching and playing staff and to assist in turnarounds. Some of our opponents have fixed Friday night fixtures and we will be able to plan without any changes being forced upon us.

“I am confident that our fans will support the Club in this. We realise it will work for some fans and not for others, but ultimately it works for the rugby department and that takes precedence at this stage of the season.”

Centurions TV Set To Make Improvements To Service

Leigh Centurions are pleased to confirm improvements to the highly valued Leigh Centurions TV channel which will have widespread benefits to the subscribers and also the Club’s coaching staff and players.

LCTV is a highly popular subscription only service that offers match highlights and full match recordings as well as interviews with players and coaches and a fantastic archives section.

Subscriptions to LCTV are to be increased for the first time since its launch in 2014.

This is to help fund new equipment, to improve content, to assist the coaching team and to help fund the addition of LCTV Head Commentator Dave Parkinson to the Club’s full-time staff. From the current subscription rate of £3.50 per month and £32 per year the rates for new subscribers and renewals when they fall due will be £5.99 per month and £60 per year.

The production team are already looking at increasing output for the channel in addition to bringing the popular Mixlr service under one banner. A number of other options are also being explored.

Leigh Centurions Owner Derek Beaumont said: “We have taken into account many factors, not least that many fans have mooted the subscription rates are too cheap for the service they receive.

“The Club is gearing up to reach Super League as soon as possible and the changes to LCTV subscriptions will greatly assist us in many ways.

“As well as funding investment in new equipment and helping meet rising production costs the content will be increased with Dave intending to do many more weekly clips and interviews with players and staff members if he is based at the club full-time.

“The primary benefit will be that Dave will be on site to film all club training sessions and this will have huge benefits to the players and coaches as we strive to improve the infrastructure off the field to match the huge investment in the playing squad.

“I am confident our valued subscribers will see the added value in LCTV and support the Club in this area.

“We are also looking to change the Mixlr broadcast so that it is a live broadcast that is only available to LCTV subscribers and will be included in the new subscription price.”

Centurions Now Using MyTPE Platform

Leigh Centurions are delighted to now be using an online platform to enhance our coaching and feedback processes for the team.

The platform is called MyTPE (Team Performance Exchange) and is an online athlete management and file sharing solution. It will enable us to upload clips for everybody to review on their mobiles/tablets/computers and then comment around. We will also be able to house our calendars on the site, along with discussion boards, questionnaires, portfolios and more to track data and provide feedback to enhance player development.

The site is provided by AnalysisPro Ltd, who have many different video analysis solutions available for teams across a variety of sports and participation levels. They have a computerised analysis software called Nacsport, along with IP Camera solutions and other online and mobile tools to enhance coaching and performance. You can find out more about what they have on offer by contacting Josh Bryan via

Leigh Centurions Strength & Conditioning Coach Nathan Penington said:

“We are looking forward to using MyTPE and enjoying the benefits it will have for increasing our communication and feedback processes within the team.

“After communicating with some Super League clubs regarding their use of MyTPE, and hearing only positive comments, we were keen to get on board ourselves. After only a couple of weeks of using the software, it is obvious to us that MyTPE will be a valuable asset to us in sharing files between coaches and players.

“MyTPE is the perfect online platform for us to share video files with individual players or a full squad, training schedules with players and staff, and helps to monitor players through exercise readiness questionnaires. The support from Josh has been great and if we have been unsure on how to use any function on our site, it has been explained thoroughly.

“There is no doubt that MyTPE is a vital tool to us and can only help us moving forward in our bid for promotion to Super League.”
